Any idea whose butt is it? The cute lil' one is happily welcoming her daily care taker.

Hello there! It's me Miss Caramel a.k.a. Ah Mel. I am the living proof of Miracles do happen. I am a survivor of the evil distemper virus and also a survivor of severe dog-attack injuries. See my cute little tipped ear and the huge pink scar around my butt? I have been spayed but the cute tipped ear is not a marking of my spaying procedure. It is the proof of my amazing recovery from an terrible dog fight. Read more about my awful experience here.

No biggies. I am doing extremely fine at Second Chance shelter now and I have taken up a new role, i.e. the receptionist of my respective kennel. Can you resist my big bright smile and hazel eyes when you walk into the shelter? Believe it or not, I really really make a perfect receptionist to greet you when you're home & welcome your guests.

And guess what? Despite my awful experience being attacked by a pack of dogs, I ain't traumatized by the ugly experience and I am still a very sociable & adorable (wink,wink) doggie. See how me and my bestie get along at the shelter? We even synchronize our greet-our-daily-caretaker dance. Amazing huh?

Don't you think I am sooooo adorable and I would be a lovely addition to your family? Pawlease pawlease pawlease.... Drop by to visit me and my fur friends @ Second Chance Shelter on 18 & 19 February.

Me and my other oh-so adorable fur friends are longing for a home sweet home too! And also Dr Goh & his helper who have taken good care of me while I was admitted to his clinic. Now that I am big & healthy, all I want is a loving home. I purrmise.... Two puppies for adoption!

Kazz came to us for help in rehoming these two puppies she found at the streets. This is the message from Kazz :

2 female stray pups, Flower (brown) and Snowy (white). They are about 3 months old. They live on the streets as you can see by the pics and take shelter under parked cars. I was planning to have them spayed before adopting. However, after weighing the chances, I think it's better to have them adopted as quickly as possible because of the dangerous place they live around. Adopter's have to get them dewormed, vaccinated and spayed. Flower: a very sweet, affectionate and shy girl. still playful and quite inquisitive because she is still very young. Will make a very good companion and she loves to kiss you :) Has a short brown and very silky coat with cute floppy ears. Has the potential to make a really great house pet :) Snowy: a little more aggressive and rambunctious than Flower, she is also very sweet and loving. Very playful still as per her young age. Also likes to kiss whenever she can :) Will make a nice pet for a person who is active. She has a medium length white coat that is very soft and yellow upright ears. Please note that these pups must never be chained or tied up at all. They must also never be caged.

New shelter building fund

As most of you aware that Second Chance (aka Paws Mission) will be relocated to a piece of one acre land at Ulu Langat very soon. With this, we have created a building fund account for fund raising purposes in order to carry out some ground works and simple construction for our furrizens settle down. Neutering our dogs

With more than 150 dogs at our cramped shelter, it is vital to have them neutered and spayed once they reach the age of six months so that their numbers can be controlled. Spaying/neutering is not cruel but does good to the dogs. On a weekly basis, we send dogs to the vet for spaying/neutering. Here are some pictures of our dogs at Dr Tan at Citivet Animal Clinic. She is one of our panel vets.

Those neutered this time are :

1. Yoyo (female 8 mth old) and William (male 1 and half year old) at Dr Tan of Bdr Bukit Puchong.

2. Big Black (male 2 year old) & RingMou (male, 1 and half year old) at Dr Tan's clinic.

Yoyo was diagnosed to have liver problem one month earlier but after medication, her liver condition was tested to be OK and she was spayed. William too was a very gentle male and he too was neutered.

Big Black could not be neutered because the vet said hid blood was too diluted and suspected tick fever, so KIV his neutering surgery. RinnMou was neutered successfully and he was so good to release all his urine before getting up to Mrs lai's car ( note the puddle of urine on the floor at the clinic).

We encourage desexing your pets in order to control the number of dogs/cats and also unwanted pregnancies.

Swee Ling has been adopted!

Swee Ling has been adopted by Mr Chin from Semenyih. He loves dogs all his life since young. His previous dog has passed on due to old age. Thus, he adopted Swee Ying to fill the void. We are thankful to Mr Chin for adopting one of our pups although he may have a young baby but does not mind the extra workload as a dog owner.

Ah Wah, our ground worker

Ah Wah is in charge of the ground work mainly at the puppy section of the shelter. He cleans, feeds and manage the dogs at that section on a daily basis. He is not an ordinary worker. He has the charms to handle fierce and aggressive dogs that other are not able to handle.

No one can go near Blackie 2 feet but Ah Wah not only could touch him but also could bath him!

The male dogs also listen to him a lot, see how Victor responded to his command of "Jump Up"!

Jognathan pays us a visit!

Jognathan is one of the 4 puppies that was fostered by Mrs Lai when they were only 2 weeks old. Jognathan and his siblings were brought to the shelter by an Indian boy who found them in a box along Old Klang Rd. Jognathan is the first one adopted among the siblings when he was only 3 months old. His adopter loves him so much that he is always being held at home. He has been brought to our shelter to board for few days while the adopter went outstation to run some errands.

Jognathan has grown so much! Mrs Lai could hardly recognize him! His adopter must have been feeding him with good stuff! We wish all of ours dogs get adopted and treated the way Jognathan is. That is our only hope at Second Chance.

Mass Vaccination Day

Dr Goh came to our shelter on 13/1/2012 ( Friday) to do a mass vaccination, about 50 of our dogs were given annual booster jabs. Thanks to Dr Goh for his patience and understanding because it was not easy to chase after and catch the dogs for the prickly procedure.

Somo and Pearly were the hardest pair to get hold of, not to mention trying to hold them steady! Somo turned many rounds inside the cage for fear of Dr Goh and uncle and aunty Kiew, but after a while he got exhausted and wanted to rest. Dr Goh saw this as the golden opportunity to give a jab! Diamond was trapped in a cage and alas, before she knew it Dr Goh has already given her backside a jab!

Little pup Swee San found a home last December and a loving owner in her adopter, Nicholas Chu. Accompanied by his father, the 15-year old was excited about having a dog in the house to play with for the first time, and wanted to pick one out himself.

He couldn't resist the charm of the 3-month old Swee San, and we are very glad to see her find a new home.

Caramel’s swanky “hand-me-down” collar

Bought this really pretty rugged collar for Flower as we thought it would look splendid on her and it did! Unfortunately the collar was a little too loose for Flower’s slender neck.

ps: Love the collar? It’s RM20 each. Chinese New Year is just around the corner… why not get this for your furry fren? :D

Handsome Jackson was crowned our unofficial furry model for the day as we took full advantage of the lovely surrounding to take picture of the recycle bags to sell.

Because of Jackson’s shiny black fur, all the colors match well with him :D Each recycle bag is RM10 and all proceeds will be used for running of the shelter.

Another 6 new pups were found at Old Klang road and were brought to our shelter by Shelly, Rena's friend. The 6 pups were all female, 2 months old, all has skin problem. Have brought them to Dr Tan's clinic for their first vaccination and mange jab.

So far, the puppies have been named A, B, C, D, E and F. Can someone help name them? We are running out of ideas!

Updates on Ah Wong

Ah Wong has long been cured of her TVT. This is Mrs Lai's report on our beloved Ah Wong.

"She looked very happy and when she saw people, she barked as laud as other dogs. I opened the door of the cage and she eagerly moved her body forward wanted to come out of the cage. I was busy tending to other dogs and when I looked at her again, half of her body hanged out. So I understood her wish to come out and walk. I held her body and helped her walk around the room, she wagged her tail happily and walked for about 10 min . Her hind legs were very weak and could not move as you could see from the pic but her front legs still strong and could walk well.

You could see she has good appetite too. Although she is sick, she is very happy because Ah Kiew gives her a lot of tender loving care, including putting padding towels for her to make sure she is very comfortable. She gets daily body massage too."

Wow! So much goodies for the furkids at the shelter!

Dear Nicol and her boyfriend have donated generously to our dogs. There were 40 bags of 15 kg dog kibbles (sent by a lorry straight from the factory), 30 bottles of Chorox (she went to clean sweep all Chorox available from Tesco, she said) , one big box of canned food (30-40 cans). She has coming to our dog shelter for the past few days just to give us the donations.

Dearest Subu has passed on

Subu, the gentle giant mastiff has left us on Sunday, 8th January 2012. She suffered from compications from her pregnancy. She was too old and could not sustain the pregnancy. The foetus died inside and resulted in toxic in her blood system. The vet has given her blood transfusion because of low platelet count , a surgery was performed to remove dead foetus but she could not make it and died the next day.

Subu was not spayed as she was already old and would not be able to stand the anesthesia. None of the ground workers saw any male dogs into her kennel as she is kept in the kennel all by herself. Subu, we miss you dearly.

The Journey to A Beautiful Soul

Hi Second Chance readers =D I'd like to update about Johnny (now renamed as Storm).
I used to be a volunteer at Pawsmission, my family and me adopted this mutt a few months ago. This was him at Pawsmission. He used to angry and scared most of the volunteers there. But somehow my family and I just felt compelled to get him. Mrs.Kim called me to warn me about the dog. I have to say that it's nice to inform us instead of turning a blind eye to the dogs weaknesses.. They really want the family and dog to get along fine.

When we adopted him, it was really hard to get him in the car. Uncle has to help us in as Storm was most comfortable with his presence. Bringing him home. I can say it wasn't easy at first. It was difficult to be around. He growls when we touch his abdomen area.. He doesn't like us to touch his tail. He don't like us when we hug him. He don't like us when we try to make him sit. He just growls and growls...

The first two months was like that. It was really difficult but it was sometimes hard to put up with him. But then we started to gain his trust more and he growled less and less.. He got more playful; taking our slippers to the garden, shredded the sponge we used to wash the car and he kept coming in the house even though we dont want him to.. It was nice he wanted to play with us but it was just too much. He was getting out of control. One day, we went for a holiday and we placed him in a vet for boarding for a few days. I gotta say, he's a real good guard dog. He barks at any stranger that comes to the house.. When I walk him, he even growls at strangers coming near me so we were worried when we were going to put him in care of someone else. Fortunately, one of the workers wasn't afraid of him at all. It took them some time for him to get used to the place.

When we got back, he was so pleased for us to take him home. It was as if.. we would never take him back. When we brought him back.. He became better. As if, he knew somewhere that if he misbehaves, we will be abandoned like how he was before we adopted him.

He will always greets us with a crazy tail wagging. He guards the house nicely. Now, he can sit without us making him to. He loves being brushed.. ALOT and he really likes to play with water. He loves being pat. He likes to chase the ball. He's a nice dog to get to know. When we wanted to get him into the car to go to the vet, he really didn't like it.. just like how we tried to get him into the car when we first adopted him. I guess he saw it as a sign of rejection but I can safely say that we wont reject this dog. He has found a good home and we have found a good dog. This is truly a second chance and I'm glad we could be that chance for him.

Why I decided to write this is that, I believe.. dogs have feelings; they can love, they can dream, they can be sad, they can even grieve.. But I didn't believe they can feel gratitude until now.You don't need a pedigree dog to be happy. I got this dog and I'm absolutely happy.

The Pet Project Malaysia : Fun under the sun

Firstly, our heartfelt thanks to Sabrina Saw and The Pet Project Malaysia team for the invitation to this event. It is a great day to be outside soaking in the sun and the rooftop of the Bristish International School of KL is just a perfect place for the event.

None of our furry frens got adopted but they sure had a wonderful day out from the shelter… They got undivided attention from the people, more treats than usual and wonderful spacious place for them to run around a little (under our watchful eyes of coz).

The three lucky furry fren that get to attend the function.. look how happy they are >_< They are still looking for home.. Please write to us if you wish to adopt them.

Remember Caramel? She had a very bad wound on her back and down to her thighs. She is now back at the shelter and her wounds are almost fully recovered. She is happy to report that she is happy her skin is getting better and fur are slowly growing back. Here are some pictures of Caramel.

Jackson is up for Adoption!

Jackson was picked up form the roadside of Old Klang Rd together with his 3 other siblings, they were only 2 weeks old and were put inside a box. They were crying for milk. their mother was no where to be seen, an obvious case of someone who did not spay their mother dog and ended up with a litter of unwanted puppies (All pet owners PLEASE SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PETS!). Mrs Lai from Paws mIssion took them home and fostered them.

Out of the 4 siblings, 2 have been adopted and 2 more left. One of them is Jackson. Jackson is now a 5 mth old pup, he is a male dog, already dewormed, vaccinated but not yet neutered. He is very handsome with very shiny clean black coat, and is an active &, friendly pup., He does not simply bark though.. He can be both a companion and a good guard dog.

The Doggies that we lost

Case Number 1

A big Bull dog was dumped at our shelter by one irresponsible person who claimed he rescued him from the street. This poor dog was obviously malnourished , skinny with ribs protruding only. He ate lots and lots of kibbles when we first fed him and he drank lots of water too. We are not sure what the owner did to him, but he sure looked pitiful. We called Dr lee to come and check on his health condition, he was distemper negative. He stayed only a few days in our shelter , the last 2 days he did not eat much, then he passed on, after only 5 days in our shelter.

May he rest in peace. The person who claimed rescued him never even came to visit this dog, despite many phone calls made to him!

Swee Lan ( a 2 -mth- old black female pup) was stolen form our shelter early one morning. She was put inside a cage under the canopy outside the office all the time. she has been such a lovely and friendly girl, always wanting to be held. We hope the person who stole her will treat her well. We sure are worried about the home environment that she has been forcibly taken to..

Macy paid us a visit at the shelter!

Macy and her "mom & dad" (and Rex) dropped by to visit us at the shelter last week, such pleasant visitors they are!

After 1 year. she has grown much plumper now - credit goes to Jessie and Richard for lavishing heaps of yummylicious food and TLC on Macy!

Our Mrs. Lai was especially thrilled to see her again after 1 year. Wanting to see if Macy still could recognize her, Mrs. Lai stood still by the side, it didn't take long for an amazing thing to happen--> Macy remembers! She ecstatically ran towards and jumped up to greet Mrs. Lai as if to say "I've missed you so much and it's great to see you again!"

She is such a beauty now as evidenced by the pictures below...

Good news! Alexander has been adopted!

Alexandra and Alexander were rescued from the dog pound by Mrs Lai a few months ago when they were still very small. Alexandra was adopted by a kind lady but agreed to foster Alexander at that time as they were both still very young to be separated. It was two weeks ago since Alexander was returned to the shelter. And good news have arrived! He has been adopted by Margaret! They have lost their dog several months ago and was looking for a puppy to accompany them. Alexander is one lucky pup. He will get kept indoors by his adopter. Here are some pictures of Alexander and his adopters!

Lab Retriever found in Ara Damansara

This male dog was found on Boxing Day. He was looking scared and trying to cross the road when some motorcycles tried to run him down. Jumped into a rescuer's car when car door was opened. He is neutered and very well behaved. Has a distinctive blue tongue. Quiet and playful, and knows some tricks. No collar was found on him, the blue collar belongs to the rescuer. We are hoping that he will be reunited with his family by the new year. Pls contact Eileen @ 019 320 3875.

Sweet Sugar

This is one post about a feline furkid named Sugar. Estimated to be 2 months of age and currently being fostered.

Like most kittens, Sugar is very inquisitive, searching every corner of the house for something that might interest her (unfortunately, there has not been a single item that has managed to hold her attention for more than 5 minutes except for a couple of kitty toys that the fosterer gave her). Sweet Sugar loves to scurry close to your feet affectionately. She enjoys playing hide and seek (yes, she does hide in corners and small spaces waiting for the fosterer to spot her (as witnessed by the fosterer's husband)).

Sugar is generally healthy, besides the diarrhoea, which the vet thinks 2 cans of ID and 4 doses of probiotics (over a 1 week period) shall do the trick. Sugar has also been dewormed a couple of days ago.

Mrs Lai said "I have very close bond with these 4 pups as I fostered them since they were 2 weeks old"

We found a box with 4 small babies aged about 2 weeks old : Jaswin is one of these pups. They were so small and weak. Mrs Lai initiated to foster them with great care and she were feeding them with milk bottles at least 5 times a day until they were strong and healthy. Thanks to Mrs Lai for taking care these 4 littles despite her busy schedule

"I owned a mix breed border collie.. he is 9 months old, and he really needs a home.

His name is Colby, Colby is a really friendly dog, he's smart and a survivor, he's been through a lot as the previous owner played around with him and threw him from the 2nd floor which causes one of legs to be broken, but he has managed to survive and adapted with the condition,

after that i took him and i've been taking care of him since then..

now i can't take care of him and he needs a home and someone who really loves him,

he doesnt bark a lot and he's very obedient.. easy to teach and good.. please open your home for colby... or perhaps you can help me find someone

who's willing to adopt him.".

The owner has also mentioned that she will be going back to her home country (like tomorrow) and will not be able to care for Colby anymore. Previous arrangements were made by the owner for Colby to be adopted but unfortunately, the potential adopter backed out at the last minute. Amber was found emaciated and was suffering from TVT. TVT is a form of benign cancer which is transmitted through touch during mating. TVT is usually suffered by dogs that are not spayed or neutered. Not only that spaying/neutering helps control the overpopulation of strays, it helps prevent TVT in dogs. It has been 7 months since Amber has been cured from TVT and she is now looking for a home. At the moment she is with her fosterer, Krystal. Here are some pictures of Amber.

Amber is a very friendly dog and loves to run around. she has been vaccinated and spayed. What's left is a place she can call home. Please contact Krystal 016-2292625 if you are interested.

Updates on our Spicy Ginger and Baby TinTin

After slightly over 2 weeks of treatment and loads of tender loving care, Ginger is recuperating well. Attached are some pictures of the hot mama with her baby TinTin.

Ginger was sent back to Dr Goh’s for a couple of days observation as she seemed to have lost some appetite (Baby TinTin was sent back as well as he still needs his mommy almost 24 hours a day at such a tender age). However, fret not peeps, Ginger is back to normal now and is eating heartily. Both mama and baby have been transferred back to our shelter.

Wag ‘N’ Roll: Charity concert in aid of animal shelter

A stellar line-up of local musicians will be lending a helping paw to furry friends in need at the Wag ‘N’ Roll charity concert to raise funds for Paws Mission, a volunteer-run animal shelter.

Wag ‘N’ Roll will be held Saturday, 19th November, at the Annexe Gallery of the Central Market from 2 p.m. to 6.p.m. to also raise awareness among the public about the plight of stray animals and the importance of caring for your pets in a fun and entertaining setting.

While the plight of animals is often raised in the media, animal welfare is still largely regarded with apathy and indifference among the general public. Wag ‘N’ Roll is one of many efforts to change this with the support of songstress Atilia, bands including Muzzy & SuperSyazwan along with ROARM, Chinese composer- singer Mike Wong and jazz artist Lokman Aslam.

There will also be a theatrical performance by Madzlan Abet and poem by Jamal Raslam, with messages of caring for our four-legged friends. ...

Kelly and her five pups rescued and need help!

Meet new mummy Kelly, and five of her adorable pups that were rescued by a volunteers a month ago when the little babies were only 2 weeks old. Now, at 6 weeks old, the siblings are all very healthy and eating well, with mummy Kelly taking very good care of them. Kelly was also very skinny when she first came but now she has good appetite and has put on a lot of weight.

Out of the 5 pups, 4 are males and one female, quite unusual beause normally the litters of puppies we see have more females than males.

The names of the pups are Harry, Henry, Hudson, Hilton and the female is Hannah.

Updates on Bear

You all must have remembered the timid shar pei mixed which was found living in terrible condition at a car workshop in Sungai Besi. His three other sibling have been killed by cars which were driven into the workshop. He is the only one left. Bear has cherry eyes. it is not a life threatening problem but it is not a pretty sight. but on Friday afternoon, Bear has undergone neutering and the eye surgery to correct the cherry eyes. He is now ready for adoption.

Bear is not a noisy puppy. He is very independent for his age and does not require much supervision. he does not bite shoes or other things, only his own toys. He loves to sleep on towels and loves to play. He will grow up to be quite big, so he needs the exercise to prevent him from being feisty. He is able to understand simple commands and understand where he is allowed to go and where he isn't allowed. quite impressive for a 5 month old puppy.

Here are some pictures taken a day after the surgeries. His eyes are still a little swollen but will subside in another day or two. Bear deserve a second chance in life because at the workshop, he almost lost his.

What Happened?

On 5 Nov 2011, Ginger was found lying in the middle of the busy Old Klang Road. She was suspected to be either hit by a car or a motorbike. Because of people who drive fast and reckless on the road, this has led to this poor innocent dog to suffer so much pain. She is at Dr Goh's at the moment. . You can see from the pictures how brutalized she looks. Her jaw is injured and there is also a huge punctured wound on the body.

**These pictures are really not for the fainted hearted, so think twice before you scroll down to look at them.**

Some updates on Ginger after a day of Hospitalization (as of 6 Nov 2011)

We just checked on Ginger's condition, her jaw is naturally deformed but the injured portion (as well as the injury to the nose) has been stitched back, the bleeding has also stopped. The punctured wound on her chest has also been stitched up. She is confirmed to be pregnant but the viability of the foetuses is not known at this juncture. Her condition has slightly improved from yesterday i.e despite the pain she is suffering from, she managed to eat half the portion of food given. Dr Goh said she is also looking brighter today.

How You Can Help Ginger?

There might still be further treatment rendered if she has her babies. Hence we are looking at an estimated treatment cost of RM500-RM700 (inclusive of her spaying and vaccination costs). We would like to appeal to the public to help us help Ginger get back on her feet. By giving a little towards Ginger's medical fund, your donations will transform Ginger's world and it would be one life saved. With this ,we would like to add, it does not matter the size of your contribution but most importantly it's the thought of wanting to help Ginger go through this recovery process that matters most. StubbyDog pays tribute to foster families

They don’t have room, but somehow they find the space. When a dog is stressed from kennel life, or in need a quiet place to heal or a family to teach them the ropes, or a rescue can’t take him unless a foster home is available – these families say, “We can take him home.”

They open their houses and hearts to fall in love with a dog that they know isn’t theirs for keeps. They go to work providing crate and leash training, socialization, medication and extra meals as needed. They separate resident pets from foster dogs if they have to, scoop extra poop, write blogs, take photos and spent their weekends at adoption events.

They take on all of the work that comes along with bringing home a new dog, and then some.

They do their best to balance holding tight and letting go. It is a tricky dance to care so deeply for a guest, since dogs stay forever in our hearts. But when people tell them, “I couldn’t foster because it would be too hard to give the dog up.” They say, “How can it be harder than knowing a dog died because no foster home stepped up?” And that is why they do it time and again.

And while they worry they might not be strong enough to let this one go, something special happens: The right adoption application arrives!

They lifted a single soul up, out of the crowd and floating on their hands, their foster dog arrived in the arms of the family that has been searching for him. It was all worthwhile.

They are the specialists, the deep sea divers, working the details of a dog’s life until he’s ready for prime time.

They bridge the gap to a new life.

They are foster families – true everyday heroes.

And sometimes, they are the bridge to somewhere deeper, a place to rest.

They understand that the troubled souls, the weak bodied, the ancient, are having a tough go of this world. And so they step up to the loneliest plate and say, “We can take her home until it’s time. We will be her final family.”

They give some very special dogs a loving home before they leave this earth.

They commit to walking alongside these dogs until the last moments. What some of us are not strong enough to do for our own pets, they choose to do for dogs they have only known for a month, a week, a day, an hour.

Fiercely they say, “I see you. I love you. You are not a number or a mistake or a victim anymore. You are mine and I will walk with you until the end.”

They are warriors of the heart.

They are compassion foster families. They are everyday heroes.

Shih-Tzu Mix Puppies Alexander and Alexandra Up For Adoption!(ADOPTED)

Two adorable shih-tzu mix puppies were rescued by a Paws Mission volunteer from the DBKL pound when she went there to look for her lost dogs. (They are MUTT that look like Shih-tzu cross, so don't quote us for giving misleading information =P Their size at maturity should be small to medium but we can't say for sure.)

She spotted one of the DBKL workers holding a box with the two tiny pups inside, and seeing how adorable they looked, could not bring herself to walk away from them. They were only two weeks old then, and she named them Alexander (male, brown and white) and Alexandra (female, black and brown).
When she first brought them home to foster them, they often squealed for attention. It's not hard to understand why they would feel scared and traumatized after being separated from their mother at such a young age.

They have since grown up enough to join the big and noisy dogs at the Paws Mission shelter, although at five weeks they are still very tiny! They are both in need of good, loving homes and surrogate mummies and daddies who will shower these little ones with love and affection.

Fundraising at The Scott Garden Mall

Our grateful thanks to Nilufar and The Scott Garden Mall for allocating a booth during their recent Kids Coloring Contest for our fundraising. Nilufar Pet & Aquatic Centre are located on Level 2 at The Scott Garden Mall in Old Klang Road.

During the Kids Coloring Contest day, Nilufar has been really generous to provide us merchandise such as key chains and magnets to be sold. For each item sold, RM1 will be donated to Paws Mission. We are also very thankful to Nilufar for offering us a spot in their shop to put our donation box. Please do feel free to drop your spare change in the box when you go shopping for your pet in Nilufar!

Nope, this is not about a new launching of smaller sized batteries than the Double or Triple As. We are talking about 4 adorable female pups, namely Ally, Alexis, Anne and Ashley!

Meet Ally, Alexis, Anne and Ashley!

These 4 pups were rescued from being put down by a dog rescuer group when they were only 6 weeks old. They were taken over by us after the adoption drive at IOI Mall. Currently with a fosterer, Ally, Alexis, Anne and Ashley have been dewormed, vaccinated once and now ready to go to their forever homes. They are now 3 and half months old. Playful, active, sociable and friendly as puppies always are!

The Taming of Ice

The fierce and furious Ice is one of the 20+ dogs dumped at the shelter a few weeks ago. She is forever growling and snarling especially when anyone goes near her, probably due to the abuse she suffered in the past. Ice was extremely scrawny when she was dumped at the shelter.. Still skinny now, but it is our mission to fatten her up. We also hope that in time Ice will learn to trust human again.. It will be a slow process but with lots of patience and time, it is possible.
~Ice is extremely wary of human.. only regulars helper like Aunty Kiew, Uncle Wong, Ming Yuet and Mrs Lai are able to go near her~

Paws Mission's Training Crew Updates =D

Hi Everybody!!
So we had a video taking session last Saturday by our one and only, Crystal Cha =D She has been so kind and supportive as to volunteer to help train the dogs and promote the shelter! We took videos here and there to tell people about our shelter; How it's been established etc. We also promote the need of adopting, vaccination, neutering etc. It was fun.. Paws Mission Training Crew also had new Tees =) Navy Blue as you can see in the pictures.

After taking videos.. We chose a new batch of dogs to train =) They should be more well suited to your needs in a few weeks ;D We just gave them a walk, making sure they get used to being on a leash.

Also, we celebrated one of out volunteer's birthday. He also helps to train the dogs. He's Tua =) The cake was baked by Xin Lin. It tasted moist and superb!!!

Jolin, looking for home again

Little Jolin, who was adopted during our adoption drive at Tesco Kepong in April was unfortunately returned to us. As sad as it is for us to see Jolin’s dream of permanent loving home dashed, we’re grateful that Jolin is returned to us and not abandoned at roadside.

It is definitely not an ideal place for the dogs, but there’s only so much we can do due to increasing number of dogs and the limited resources we got.

But thanks to the very much needed help of a few good men ( it is really a great relief to have some guys around to help us out ), we got a temporary extended shelter set up inside the abandoned prawn pond outside the shed.

Fosterer Needed for Bear Bear

A minor car accident brought about a trip to a car workshop which in turn caused the car owner to chance upon a 5 -month -old Shar Pei mixed puppy (male), now named Bear Bear.

Car Workshop is definitely not the place for Bear Bear, don't you agree?

Seeing the deplorable condition the puppy is living in (lying around the floor with spilled engine oil, water container contaminated with all sorts of automobile oil and God knows if he's been fed properly), the car owner decided to probe a bit further into how he's been treated all this while. According to some folks around that area, Bear Bear used to have 3 other siblings but Bear Bear is the only one left as the other three were run down by cars which came to the workshop to get their cars fixed.

Bear Bear has been brought to the vet for a checkup and blood test. Blood test results show that he's fighting some form of infection and is currently on a course of antibiotics. He has also got cherry eyes (the large red mass bulging out of the inner corner of his eyes. those are actually his own tear glands which popped out) . Anyone who knows about cherry eyes will know that it's a condition which is not visually appealing, but fairly common (especially in certain breeds, Shar Pei is one of them) . However it's actually benign (non life threatening) and can be corrected via surgery.

Bear Bear is friendly & good natured

Bear Bear is currently under observation and boarding at the vet's clinic. If all goes well, he would be vaccinated in a couple of days. Since the cherry eye condition is non life threatening, priority is given towards treating his infection. Bear Bear is very friendly towards humans and quiet (not whiny, and exudes a calm personality)

BearBear needs a foster home, as well as a permanent home too =)

Pola the Talking Pooch - Our very own “Receptionist”!

If you were to set foot into our shelter via the main entrance, you will not miss the greeting sounds from our very own receptionist – Pola.

Pola is one of about 20 dogs who were left at our doorstep. When he first settled into our shed, he was emaciated and forlorn looking. From what we know, he, along with his 20 fellow canine friends were enclosed in a compound without food for quite sometime.

A couple of his friends had to be sent to the vet immediately and put on intravenous drip as they were severely malnourished.

Quite wary of the human nature at first, Pola has now warmed up to his human caretakers, whenever we are there, he’ll wag his tail rigorously. He also has his own way of greeting people and for saying goodbyes.

Hence he has since been nicknamed “The Receptionist”

It would no doubt take sometime for him to pile on the kilos, however with loads of tender loving care we don’t foresee that to be a problem. If you would like to meet our “Receptionist” face to face, feel free to drop us a note for an appointment!

Miko, adopted

Meet Maznah, the Muslim dog-trainer

It was five abandoned puppies that changed her life. And now Maznah believes that working with dogs is her calling.

Whenever she takes her dogs for a walk, she is bound to attract curious stares. And when she reveals that she is a part-time dog trainer, eyeballs pop out of their sockets.

This is because Maznah Mohd Yusof, 36, is a Malay-Muslim.

Hailing from Johor, the US-trained engineer said that her family never told her that dogs are “haram” (forbidden) for Muslims.

“There are different school of thoughts in Islam. Here, we follow the Shafie school of thought which does not say dog is haram but merely asks us to cleanse ourselves after touching a wet dog.”

Maznah, who holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, said she never enjoyed working as an engineer and was searching for something more “satisfying”.

Maznah’s fate took a furry twist in late 2007 when she and her housemate stumbled upon five abandoned puppies at the car park in Queensbay Mall.

“Two of them looked almost lifeless, so we immediately took them to a nearby veterinarian. When they recovered, the veterinarian suggested that we deliver them to SPCA. But we were shocked when SPCA told us that it might put the puppies to sleep since they are too young to be taken care of. They were just two-weeks-old. That’s when we decided to look after them ourselves,” she said.

After moving to Rawang with her dogs in the same year, Maznah realised that for some strange reason, stray dogs were drawn to her house.

“Even those with dogs that are normally unfriendly to others, are surprised when their dogs are friendly with me. Then, I realised it was a sign that I should be working with dogs.”

She started by doing her own research on how to train dogs, gathering information from books and the Internet. “I learnt a lot from a book called Cesar’s Way penned by Mexican dog trainer Cesar Milan.”

On the training she provides, Maznah said that she is focused on basic obedience training and relationship building for now.

Based on her experience, Maznah believes that a dog is a “reflection” of its owner. “I knew one dog owner who was calm and patient. And these qualities rubbed off on his dog as well.”

Therefore, she added, it is vital for owners to spend time with their dogs to build a strong bond.

“I can say that it is the owner that needs the training rather than the dog. Owners must take responsibility to train the dogs, as trainers like me only come once a week. From there, owners need to follow up with the training to ensure the dogs get it. As I said, dogs like consistency.”

Little lady Sasa is all grown up!

The last time we updated about Sasa here, she was only a tiny pup!

However, from the looks of her lady-like puppy pictures (above taken earlier this year), it's probably no surprise to find out that Sasa has grown into a demure little lady. Her dachshund ears have stayed as floppy and adorable as ever, but her figure has filled out nicely (in fact, maybe a bit too voluptuously around the sides!) and her coat has taken on a lighter, more brownish hue.

She has been part of our pioneering group of Obedience School students and has been progressing beautifully, from learning to walk on a leash to learning to sit. She has the calmest and most gentle personality out of all the dogs in the group, making her very accommodating and easy to control. During training intervals, she will often flop down for a rest, content to lie down and observe while the other dogs explore around excitedly.

If you're looking for a chilled-out furry friend to manja and snuggle with, this little princess may be exactly the one you're looking for! Her fur is wonderfully soft for a stray dog, and her easy-going nature makes her very people-friendly - the perfect companion pet.

Popcorn, reinvented

Popcorn, rescued just a few days ago, is settling really well at her fosterer’s place. She was very timid and shy initially but after lots of TLC from the family (and furmily) , she’s more relaxed and lively now.

Sammy Boy’s day out @ Cutie Pet Fair

It was Sammy Boy’s second day at Cutie Pet Fair and he was still overwhelmed by the size of the crowd. Despite all the stresses, he did had a good time, especially when passerby stop and pet or gave him treat :D We had no luck finding Sammy Boy a home during Cutie Pet Fair but we’re happy to hear that other dogs got adopted.

George Needs a Home

George is the black and brown doggie

"I have been fostering this 4 months+ old male puppy ( George) for nearly a month ( the black and brown one in pictures attached). I'm in desperate need to find him a home ( or, last resort, if any farm owner can take him in and treat him well).

"Here's the background about this puppy: He and his brother were dump in a house under renovation. Neighbours have been feeding them on and off until one day one of the neighbours asked me to help in getting this pup a home considering that it is very cold at night and rainy season. They took his brother in but can't afford to take him along, so I took him home, clean him and provide food and shelter while trying hard to get him a home. He is very afraid of human touch ( maybe because he had been chased and probably bullied by other human before) and will scream ( high pitch sound!) whenever he is afraid of something even though it is just a mere touch on his head or back ( I'm working on this by giving him treats whenever he let me touch and pat him), sometimes he might accidently urinate or pooped too ( this had improved much since day 1, now hardly happen). He learnt to SIT, HAND and WAIT before food, and I'm still working on more commands and potty training for him. He is dewormed and vaccinated too. He is more a dog- dog rather than human- dog, he can get along very well with almost all dogs, he gets along well with another pup *see picture* and my dog compared to humans, although it is my dog, sometimes, refused to accept him around during mealtime"

"With my exam coming in less than a month's time, and the constant "concern" my neighbors showed towards George's uncertain future, my mum gave order to have him sent off ( but TO WHERE?). Future adopters can adopt George FOC, with condition that they will have him neutered, and love him, that's all I'm asking for. The only thing about George for future adopters to keep an eye is that he is at the stage where he'll change his teeth and explore the world, so he tend to bite and chew around. But no worries, with lots of chewhide ( he loves them a lot btw) and toys ( no squeky type, he's afraid of the squek sound) + your time and attention, damages will be minimum.
George is a lovely boy, please do help him get a home."

Updates from Brindle's (formerly Subu) new home!

Brindle and Kerry

Our gentle giant, Subu, has been settling comfortably into her new life after being adopted by Robynn. Besides being given a new name, Brindle, she has also put on weight and was immensely curious about her new environment at first. This resulted in a lot of cats being chased all around the house by a very energetic blue mastiff!

Despite the mischief, Brindle has come to settle in very well with her new family, and has found a new companion in Robynn's other dog, Kerry. Within a few days of getting to know each other, she and Kerry have since been inseparable, playing, eating, and sleeping together.

Says Robynn, "I'm getting very fond of her and we spend good time together outside. She loves to join me in the outside shower and she is very good when I wash her. I think she enjoys the attention."

We're delighted that Brindle is having such a good time in her new home and we hope she will have many more happy memories there!

Madame Wong’s Acupuncture Treatment

And so the treatment starts. Madame Wong was very brave and did not whine much throughout the process.

The plight of Aunty Angeline – Please help by giving her rescued dog a home

We posted on plight of Aunty Angeline to us back in June 2011 and things are still not getting better for Aunty Angeline since then. Aunty Angeline is facing eviction in December as the area she lives in had been sold to developer. Aunty Angeline is worried for her rescued dogs and hope to rehome as many of her rescued dogs as possible. Please help spread the words to your family and friends about Aunty Angeline’s plight.

I highlighted the plight of Aunty Angeline few months few months ago. She is a dog rescuer in my neighbourhood now having 30+ dogs in her house in KL city. She is facing eviction in December as the area she lives in had been sold to developer. She feeds stray dogs in my neighbourhood and also going the extra miles of spaying female dogs, sheltering injured dogs and nursed them back to health. The result ... 30+ dogs at her house. Being internet illiterate, she did not know where to seek help to get people adopt the dogs ..... I followed her to Jalan Chin Chin & went to her house yesterday morning to snap these photos.
Calling for adoptions for 7 puppies :-

Colour : 5 black with brown paws, 1 dark brown & 1 light brown
Pictures of the 4 pups inside the temporary shelter Angeline erected for them. The pups' mom was targeted for spaying but too late as she was already pregnant. After that, Angeline has been monitoring the mom' progress to ensure she gave birth in a safe environment.

The remaining 3 pups are placed at a cage at Angeline's house to avoid overcrowding of the temp shelter. It is not the best place for them as Angeline's house sheltered 20+ adult dogs in various cages and the good-behaved dogs are roaming free.

As all the pups are growing by the seconds, it would be the best for them to get adopted by human who can care for them.

Is She Your Doggie?

We found a Silky Terrier has been wandering in Seri Kembangan for a few weeks. After observing for weeks and asking the neighbour around, we concluded that she is most prolly a LOST dog / ABANDONED pet. Catching her was a breeze as she was so tame and stood still in the drain when we chased her.

We renamed her Popcorn de Terrier.

This is her in her Zebra suit after 2 hours of grooming marathon.

She was a stinky terrier when we just got her

She looks so neat and clean now! Going to the vet for medical check up tomorrow...

Cutie Fair, Central Park Day 1

Even before 8am, the car parks were already full. Many came early to set up the booth and to unload their stuff. The morning started great with quite a crowd at the fair. The help students were of great help too. They helped to asked for donations from people at the fair.

There were many dog food suppliers at the fair. NGOs like MDDB, HOPE, Myanimalcare, KTAJ, SPCA and PAWS were there too. You can get some free samples of dog food for your dog to try. At our booth, there are also puppies for adoption.

Updates on Madame Wong aka Ah Wong

Firstly, many thanks to all whom had contributed generously for Madame Wong’s recovery.

Special thanks to Dr Edmund and staff for taking such great care of Madame Wong, and also to Dr Susanna for the acupuncture treatment. Dr Susanna had previously help treated our Lady Marisa. Click here and here to read more. Marisa has since then recovered and adopted by a loving family =)

Madame Wong has been discharged from the vet and is now residing at our shelter. We hope to able to snap her latest picture and share with you all soon ^_*

Hey everyone,

There haven’t been many updates or news or post on our shelter for a while now.. Our apologies for the lack of updates..

The shelter is still operational (if you’re wondering) and work is in progress ( slowly but surely ) to improve our website.

We liked to give a BIG BIG welcome to our new volunteers ( you know who you are >_< ). Thanks so very much for your interest and passion in helping us help the homeless furry frens!!

We also liked to express our grateful thanks to HELP students who have been helping us at the shelter, and also TJ who had been giving us very valuable lessons on dog training. Thank you all very much indeed!

This coming weekend, Paws Mission is involved in two events. One is the Cutie Fair at Central Park, Bandar Utama and the other is Kids Coloring Contest at Scott Garden, Old Klang Road. At both events we will be there to raise awareness of the need to sterilize cats and dogs in order to control their number. We are also aiming to raise some funds for our shelter's upkeep and also for the 150 dogs and puppies we have in the shelter.

Adopted: Blue Mastiff, Subu

Subu, a fearless and loyal 7 year old Blue Mastiff has a new owner!

A kind-hearted lady, Robynn, had agreed to take care of Subu for the next two years until her teaching term is up.

When Subu’s new owner first met her new companion, she was delighted and called her a “gorgeous” dog.

We bet Subu will be equally delighted, as Robynn has a huge compound with lots of space for Subu to run around instead of being caged up in a small kennel.

Before Subu was taken to her new home, she went for a final health check-up, to make sure she is clean and neat for her new owner.

We all very happy for Subu as she now has a kind lady to love her and a big place to roam about.

A Sad Sad Story with a Happy Ending

We would like to share with our readers a real life story we found on the net about a dog named Dolly. It's sad how Dolly was abandoned, heartwrenching to know how Dolly's been hurt emotionally (yes we strongly believe dogs can feel) but yet still had that faith in her previous owners and held onto that faith for three long years...read on to find out how the story ends or rather how Dolly's new life chapter is beginning =)

After three long, sad years on the run, a lost dog named Dolly has a new home.

Calera, Alabama animal control officer Chris Smith finally caught Dolly at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Alabama 25 after a lengthy and exhaustive pursuit.

The tan, mixed-breed dog is well known for wandering Calera’s Waterford subdivision and Kensington Manor apartments. “It felt good to be able to get her off the street and get her to a good home,” Smith said. The good home he is referring to? His own. After hearing her heartbreaking history, Smith and his wife Carla said they wanted to know she was home for good.

According to Smith, Dolly’s previous owners lived in the Waterford subdivision. When faced with foreclosure, the owners moved out and abandoned Dolly. “A neighbor said that for three years she came back every week to the yard where she had been left,” Carla Smith said. “She just knew in her heart they would return for her.”

They never did, and the devoted, heartbroken dog recently left the Waterford area, wandering through Calera, where Smith eventually found her. Because of the sadness she’s endured, Smith says she will only know love and safety in her new home.

“We will never leave her,” Carla Smith said. “She is family.”

Dolly is being treated for a number of ailments at Calera Animal Hospital. She is malnourished and riddled with parasites after spending so much time uncared for, but is expected to recover fully.
