Life Can Only Get Better for Mandy

Aunty Kiew called and told me she has rescued a little pup with an injured hind leg from some bushes. She has heard the cries of the pup for the past 2-3 days but gave no thought to it thinking a mother dog was with the pup. But this morning she could not hold her curiosity anymore and decided to jump over the fence to take a good look. What she saw broke her heart, the pup was crying not only because of the pain but also she also must be very hungry. She took her back to the shelter and gave her a good cleaning off maggots, dirt and entangled grass. She called me to rush the pup to the vet for necessary medical attention.

Dr. Lee was shocked when she saw the broken leg. She too wondered what happened to the pup.  Dr. Lee cut off the entangled grass and the pup did not even feel any pain though there was some flesh still dangling to it. Dr. Lee then administered antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and pain killer to stop infection and pain to this pup. She advised the leg to be amputated to prevent infection to the rest of the body. The surgery cost is estimated to be RM580 (after a good discount to us, Second Chance).

Second Chance decided to raise some fund for Mandy so that she can have a good and healthy life again. Mandy was in good health and it is not a problem to perform surgery on her.  I left the clinic with a light heart because she is in good hands now.

UPDATE:-

Mandy's hind leg has been successfully amputated and she tolerated the surgery very well. Dr. Zamzi has given her a E-collar to prevent her from scratching the stitched-up wounds. Her plight has touched the heart of Jason Teoh who has decided to adopt her. He has come to the shelter to fill up the necessary forms and will take Mandy back to his house . Mandy will not be lonely as Jason has two Shi Tzus to play with her.

Mandy has been discharged yesterday and now is with the fosterer. She is a curious and gentle little pup and she can stand very firmly and moves around very well.

We thank all the donors who helped pay Mandy's surgery cost, we also thank Jason for responding immediately to offer a good loving home to Little Mandy, Jason, you have a very big heart. With a good old Daddy Jason,  life will only be better for Little Mandy!

Here are some pictures of Mandy after the surgery, those at fosterer's home and of Little Mandy 's new family.

Rainbow On Top of the World

Rainbow was only two months old when she was rescued at Subang Jaya by an animal lover Rain Low. Rain passed to me to foster and I subsequently adopted her. She was one active kitten, she hopped around like a kangaroo in my house when she was young. After almost two years, she has grown up now. And whenever people ask me how is Rainbow doing, I always tell them Rainbow is doing fine and always feeling ON TOP of the world.

Here are some pictures showing how she feels ON TOP of the world.

On Top of the washing machine

On Top of the kitchen cabinet

On top of the book cupboard
On top of the display cabinet

On Top of the sewing machine

ON TOP of the altar table!

Rainbow, that is just too much lah...it is our altar table you know...

Whereas the other cat Blackie, is always happy to squeeze inside a small fruit basket for her afternoon nap

Both these two cats have very different character and personality. Rainbow likes to keep to herself and rather quiet , she prefer to watch the world goes by UNDER her. She loves to eat chicken meat very much and find kibbles very boring.
On the other hand, Blackie is more active and playful, she likes to seek for human attention. She eats ONLY cat kibbles and NO chicken/fish meat.
These two cats do not see eye to eye with each other, they will stare at each other a long long time until one gives up and walks away, usually Rainbow is the one who give up and walk away.

Despite their contrast behaviors and habits, my family loves both of them very much and very equally. We hope they can spend the rest of their lives happily in my house and bring us not only joy and companionship, but also lots of laughter and meaning to our lives too!

A Micky Mouse Dog

I saw this dog in Dr. Lee's clinic at Kuchai Lama Road, Kuala Lumpur. This dog caught my attention because her face looked so much like a Micky Mouse.

I thought I should take a picture of her and shared with others.

A Burmese Story

There is a great Burmese man is working in a workshop in Puchong. He has rescued  many homeless dogs around his work place and has been caring for them.

I was driving around in Bandar Bukit Puchong when I saw some dogs hanging around some shops. Just as I wondered how these dogs were going to get food when all shops were closed on Sunday and not a soul was around. I saw this man cycling with his toddler child sitting in the bicycle basket, he was bringing some food for the dogs.

Apparently Micheal (his name) lived in an apartment quite far away (from the way he panted), he worked in one of the shops and have been taking care of these few dogs ( 7-8 of them). He worried the municipal council people would catch them, so he made some cages to put them in so they could be safe.

The dogs had skin problems and were not neutered, I advised him to take the dogs to a nearby clinic (Dr. Tan's Citivet clinic) for all necessary medical care including neutering them and I would pay for the bills. He readily agreed to do it . When I called him few days later, he had brought all the dogs for the first mange jabs. Of course, he did that by taking them one by one on his bicycle.

It has been three months now, and the dogs haev recovered from mange problem and four of the dogs have been neutered and the others have to delay surgery till their medical conditions are better.

As it was getting too crowded in the cages, I brought two of the female dogs back to our shelter.I have named them Leena (black color) and Laina (dark brown color), both of them are female, six months old and have been spayed. I hope people can give them a loving home.
Those who are interested to adopt them, please call Mrs Lai 16 3323382 , Kim 012 9192263 or Mei Leng 012 9761958.

What touched me is when our country men are busy abandoning dogs, this man from Burma has no qualms spending so much time, energy and money to take care of them. His selfless act really puts many of us to shame.  His boss's kindness of letting the dogs kept in fornt of his shop should also be commended.
I hope people who lives near there can help him with some donation in kinds, it is getting a bit tough for him to feed them.

Small and crowded make shift cages, at least it is a shelter and safe from being caught

Two dogs were kept in this cage

Laina, a beautiful dark brown female dog, 6 months old.

House Check!

Eric was adopted during the June adoption drive which was held at our shelter. He was adopted into the loving family of Chris Tay. We went to their house to check on Eric as according to Chris, he has been biting their shoes! When we got there, Eric was very alert and barked at us. He was indeed a good guard dog. He loves to shake hand with people and can be easily trained. If given time and a bit more patience, his habit of biting shoes can be solved as well. Here are some pictures during the house check.

We hope that this family will give more Eric a little bit more time to overcome this habit of biting shoes. Alas, we would like to thank Eric's adopter for giving Eric a second chance.
