If you are concern about the animal welfare in Malaysia, please participate the following survey from Department Veterinary Services (DVS). This bill (which is long overdue) will be tabled to Parliament and we hope to see changes and improvement for the future welfare of the animals especailly those being ill treated, abandoned, abused and etc. The deadline of the survey is 30/6/12. Please speak up for the animals, thank you very much.

Here is what he said:-

"We've created an enhanced page where people can conveniently share the survey with friends with just a single click.

Please feel free to share this link with your respective audience too. Hopefully we can generate a lot of survey participants together and show government the public's solid demand for animal welfare."

Thank You

Chiwa was waiting from 11am till late evening for her 2nd chance (to be adopted) when Mr. Albert Cheng came.

He gave Chiwa a surprise gift and it really made her day, see how cheerful her face was (Kim was holding her)!

Thank You , Mr Cheng for your generous food donation to Second Chance!

Second Chance volunteers were  thrilled to receive 200 kg of pet food donation at the Pet World Malaysia 2012, Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.  This pet food donation for animal shelters campaign was organized by PETSTER and SMARTHEART.  Its objective is to create awareness about the importance of contributing to animal shelters.

Second Chance, being one of the participating animal shelters, wish to express our heartfelt thanks to PETSTER and SMARTHEART.

Neuter Your Dogs, People!

Malaysian generally are very defensive when comes to neutering their dogs, they have so many excuses for not doing this great favor to our canine friends.

As a results, many unwanted puppies are born. When that happens, dog owners dispose their problems by throwing out the puppies from their homes, their factories, their farms etc. Some of these puppies are barely few weeks old and  still require their mother's tender care, not to mention the nutritious milk that they so needed.

By so heartlessly abandoning these young puppies on the streets, they are literally left to die...and some Malaysian have no qualms of doing this evil deed to tiny puppies???

Few days ago,  two 4-week-old puppies were found inside a box along Kuchai Lama Road, Kuala Lumpur. There was a note that read " Take me home" (an educated owner???).

I am not sure the heartless owner could stand a few minutes under hot Malaysian weather that could rise to 36C, but he would let the puppies suffer what he could not endure himself by placing them in the hot afternoon sun!

One kind young lady found the box and wasted no time to bring over to Second Chance's shelter. These 2 puppies were found to be dehydrated and extremely hungry, obviously they were very disoriented too. Volunteers at the shelter naturally were very angry at this incident and swore obscene words that I have no intention of repeating here. With about 200 dogs and puppies at the shelter, the new arrival definitely would burden them further, not to mention more funds are needed to sustain the shelter. The problem will get worse and worse with so many irresponsible people in this country.

Why can these cruel people get away from it so easily? Why do dog lovers/rescuers have to be put through the ordeals of seeing these cruel acts on innocent canine friends and yet feel so helpless? What is wrong in this country?

Nonetheless, one volunteer had to take the puppies home to be fostered and they have been named George and Georgina. After 3 days of good care and good food, they have recovered from the shock of being abandoned.

They are well and healthy and together with 20 other puppies in the shelter, will be put up for adoption in the coming adoption drive held in Tropicanal City Mall on 1st July (Sunday) from 10am to 6pm.

Please come with friends or relatives and take these puppies home to give them a home they so deserve!

Georgina is still very fearful after the ordeal

Luckily George is a brave boy, always ready for anything

No one can imagine people can throw out this adorable pup. Neuter your dogs, people!

He is playful and curious, checking everything out in the kitchen

His curiosity knows no bound...

Mother's milk is the best but this is the closest we can get

More Dogs/Pups Adopted!

For the past 2 weeks, many people came forward to give a home to our dogs.

These were the people who prefer to adopt than to buy, responding to the call of  "Adoption is the best option, adopt a Malaysian dog today!"

We would like to say a big "Thank You" to them for giving love and care to our sheltered dogs! It just proves that many people are more open in their attitude towards Malaysian dogs now. One of the gentleman even commented that "It is SO wrong to buy when there are SO many homeless dogs that need a home!"

That was about the sweetest words I heard in years!!!

Chuckie was adopted by these 2 gentlemen from Cheras
Chuckie was so cool, all ready to go to a new home

Big Brown adopted by Mr. Lim who lives closeby to our shelter.

Big Brown  had been a big brother to all the dogs in the shelter, we could not help but to miss him...
Kelly was also adopted by Mr. Lim. Fear not, Kelly, we will visit you often

Alloysius, being a male, is the first to be adopted among the 4 siblings.

Johnson was too handsome not to be adopted, again.
(Previous owner travelled a lot and Johnson often spent time at boarding house, thus he returned Johnson to us in the hope that he could find an owner that could give him lots of quality time)

Samantha and Nicholas have to take good care  of their pet Opal, daddy said.

Alice ( Aloysius's sister) was adopted by Mr. Khoo from Shah Alam

Terry and Mr. Leong have similar facial expression?

Magnolia was chosen by this little girl from Long family

Magnolia, bye bye, you are in good hands...

Thank You

Words of Innocence

You guys know the famous website, 9gag?  I read this post which was really sweet. The mind of this six-year-old kid was so fascinating......

Humans are blinded by money, ambition, success; caught up by work, concentrating on making money; caged in an office from 8am-11pm, get booted by bosses or staff....

We don't live a life, we merely survive. We need a break to live life to realize what we have. Don't let that magnificent child minds die, we should embrace it.

Dogs are good examples. They live in the moment and that is what we should learn in life .

Pet World Exhibition Fair in Mid Valley

Second Chance was lucky to have a chance to take part in the Pet World Exhibition Fair in Mid Valley. Together with many other dog rescue groups (including HOPE who came all the way from Johor), we sell merchandise to raise fund to feed our dogs. Some of our puppies and dogs are also brought there to be adopted.

Dog kibbles suppliers set up huge stalls to promote their brands. There are also rabbit, cat and dog competitions which drew many participants.

The exhibition hall is located  on the 3rd floor of Mid Valley (next to World of Feng Shui). If you have not gone there yet, please do not miss the occasion as there are many things to see and to buy, not to mention there are also opportunity for you to make some contribution to the welfare of the homeless dogs in Malaysia.

The fair is held from 15th to 17th Jun 2012 (Friday to Sunday), and the opening hours is from 10am to 9pm.

These were some of the happenings in the hall on the first 2 days of the fair...
