Tony and His Dog, Roger

Roger resting in a corner of the shelter
Roger was taken to us by his master ,Tony about half a year ago. Tony and Roger was living in a house in Cheras but Tony's neighbour always harassed him for having a dog and these 2 neighbours have had many quarrels and argument over Roger. Roger did bark at the neighbour sometimes ( being a male dog). Tony's  annoying neighbour complained to Tony's landlord and so the landlord threatened not to rent the house to Tony if he continued to keep Roger.
Reluctantly, Tony had to look for a new home for Roger and took him to SPCA hoping to get him rehomed but he was told that Roger had a slim chance to be adopted and would be put to sleep if not adopted within certain period. Tony would not want Roger to be euthanized and so took him out and with a heavy heart, left him in a park.Tony thought  at least Roger had a chance to live. That night Tony could not sleep a wink, he tossed and tossed in bed, worrying sick and feeling guilty about dumping Roger. Tony got up very early the next day and drove to the park to check on Roger. What he saw broke his heart, Roger was still staying in the same spot. Not wanting to miss his master when he came back, Roger had not dared to wonder away. Tony went up to Roger and gave him a good hug and cried.

Roger is Ah Wah's favorite dog
He later went around to look for another shelter for Roger. He came to Second Chance and pleaded with Mrs Lai to take Roger in. Although we were already having more than 150 dogs, Mrs Lai had not the heart to turn Roger away. He was looking so confident that his master would not leave him.
Tony was ever so grateful and he has been visiting Roger regularly. Tony always baths and walks Roger whenever he comes to the shelter.

Tony and Roger have such a strong bond, Tony hopes to move to another house soon and promise Roger to take him back home, for good...

HELP University students helping us

Last Sunday, four HELP University students came to help out at the shelter. Here is what Peter Woo wrote after the community service work at Second Chance shelter at Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur.

Our experience as volunteers in Second Chance dog shelter cannot be expressed by words alone.
Our volunteering service is a community outreach program set by our university where we have to help the less fortunate community.

From left Sze Pei, Peter Woo, John Cheong & Brian Cheah from HELP University

Even though it was just a 10-hours work in the shelter, we have experienced many things which we normally would not be able to.
Seeing those homeless and abandoned dogs and puppies in the shelter was very upsetting. We have seen dogs looked desperately for attention and love. We have also seen a dog with three legs. There was also another dog which has been traumatised by its former owner. What is wrong with the people nowadays? Why don't they take care of the dogs that they bought from pet shops, but abandon them after sometime?

The dogs will have a clean floor to sleep tonight

Help me, please

People, we need to wake up. Animals are also living things, they have emotions just like us. To those pet owners out there, please take good care of them. And to those who are looking for a pet, please give a chance to the dogs/puppies in the shelter
Lastly, we appeal to people not to abuse animals but treat them with lots of loving kindness and compassion.”

This pup is so very heavy

Let me help you with these ticks

Finally we have finished cleaning!

Thank you for helping us, please do come again!

Adoption Drive this Sunday

Chuckie is here to melt your heart!

Chuckie was found today loitering around near the National Blood Bank which is along the busy Jalan Tun Razak. That is never a safe place for a puppy to be. Chuckie is a loving and affectionate puppy estimated to be of 3months old. He has just had his first vaccination. He is also dewormed.

This kor kor found me!

I love to sleep while being hugged! I feel so loved!

I am not trying to act cute. I am really this cute all the time!

Would you like to take me home?

He is in good health and is looking for a family he can share his love with. Chuckie will always be able to make anyone smile with his infectious smile and playful character. To know Chuckie a little better, do come on over to our shelter on 3rd June during our adoption drive. Also, for more details on Chuckie please call Mun Ee at 0176502412.

3 Pups Adopted Today!

Today is a happy day at Second Chance because  3 of our pups were adopted!

The first pup adopted was Max. Max has been a hot favorite since his picture was in PetFinder.my. I have told the adotpers of our "First Come First Get " policy. So the lucky lady was Madam Than from Cheras. She was brought to our shelter by her niece, Yik Leng, who is a great dog lover herself (she owns 6 dogs, and all were strays before). Madam Tham took to Max instantly and although it is her first time owning a dog, but not to worry because the experinced Yik Leng will be coaching her on dog care, everything from grooming to diet.

Max just can't lick enough of Yik Leng

still not enough....

The second pup adopted today was Stanley.

Mr. Chew was accompanied to the shelter by 2 ladies (his sister and girlfriend) to help him to choose a good pup for their house in Cheras.  They hardly moved around for a few minutes and alas, Stanley caught Mr. Chew's eyes and yes, he is the one!

And so Stanley is going to go to a new home in Cheras. We have confidence Mr. Chew will take good care of Stanley because  he has 2 dogs in his hometown and Stanely will be his third dog.

Mr. Chew  was all smiles holding Stanley, flanked by his sister (left) and his girlfriend (right).

Stanley, don't wear a worried look, you are going to a new home

Stanley is ready to for the world now, bring it on,  he said.

The lucky third dog is Zion.

Zion is a 6 month-old male pup and has been in  our shelter for only about 2 months. We were sure he would get adopted as he is very handsome, having a  mixed look of a Terrier and a German Sherphed.

Mr. Lee and his whole family came from Rawang to look for a companion for their Golden Retriever dog named Billy. They were very happy to see the good-looking Zion. Zion was  very resistant to the new family but Mr. Lee and family would give him time and space to adjust himself to a new environement.

P/S: Just called up Miss Lee and she told me that Billy has already grown fond of Zion but the latter has yet to warm up to his new friend. Lee family,  thanks for being so understanding and giving Zion time to be part of the family.

Mr. Lee will sit with Zion, all the way back to Rawang home

May, the pretty pup adopted!

I found a new home!
Today is my lucky day

May arrived at the shelter about one month ago, her pretty face and very pinky tounge has attracted the attention of Claudine Roch and her husband who are from Happy Garden.

They already have a German Shepherd mix and guess what, May's fur is the same color as him.
Claudine and husband did not mind May's mange problem as obvious at the ear.
(this shows how much they love her!)

I found a new home!

May, we are so glad you have found a new home, we wish you all the best, be a good girl and we trust you will be very much loved by your new mummy and daddy.

We know we will miss you....

My mummy adores me...yummy...

See, how tight she holds me....

Fostered Pups

It is the most rewarding and enriching experience to foster tiny pups and  see them grow up happy and healthy in a caring and loving home.

Bruse, the black male pup, was rescued from drowning in a drain in Balakong by Moses Ng who happened to pass by. Bruce was  3 weeks old then. This kind man sent him to a vet for a thorugh check up to make sure he was not suffering from any illness as he looked so weak and fragile. As he lived in an apartment and already have 2 dogs himself, he could not keep him. He called up Second Chance and pleaded to help this tiny pup so he would not be left out there to die, being so tiny and young.

Moses was so thankful when one volunteer agreed to foster Bruce. Moses texted many many "Thank You" to the fosterer . It has been 5 weeks now and Bruce has grown to be a fine little boy and ready to go to a new  home . We hope someone out there can love and accept him for what he is and give him unconditional love just like he will give you his!!

Whilst Simon, Stanely & Susan were also fostered when they came to the shelter looking so tiny and so in need of 24 hours care. They were rescued from Jalan Ipoh road by Wai Leng who has been feeding the mother dog. Being a dog rescuer herself, she has far too many dogs to care for,  she decided to seek help from Second Chance to give these pups a chance to live. She was sure the pups would not survive long living along a busy road. Their mother was with them but could not be caught . Mrs Lai helped to take care of these lovely pups for a month now, and she has nothing but praise for these three pups, they are so playful and happy, they bring so much joy to Mrs Lai's family too. It is a great feeling to know you have given them a good start in life. Mrs Lai prays someone will take over the care of these pups and give them a good home they so deserve!

Please call Mrs Lai at 016 3323382, Kim 0129192263 or Mei Leng 0129761958 if you are interested in adopting them. If you don't, at least help us by spreading words around your circle of friends so that these pups can find a home.

You can also offer to foster any future pups that need help by contacting the persons stated above.
