Donations received at Adoption Drive

We met with so many donors the last weekend. Here are two families who came by and dropped of some goodies for the doggies. The first would be Miss Ho and her family who brought kibbles and a donation of RM150.

Then there was Mag and her family who brought 2 bags of kibbles, some newspaper and a cage. Mag, you told me you would like more updates on the website. I am trying my best to work on more posts. I hope these few updates would make you happy. Do drop by more often at the shelter.

Miss Ho and Mag, we thank you for your generous donations. The doggies at Second Chance cannot express how much they are grateful for your donations.

A brave volunteer speaks of her experience at Second Chance

Hyon Sim is also from HELP Institute. Here's what she has to say about her experience at the shelter.

Hi, my name is Hyon Sim and I am from Korea.

At first when I got to the Second Chance, which is behind the Wisma Buddist , my feet started to shake and I felt very scary because I was afraid of dogs. I have never touched a dog before and every time when I see dogs it just made me scared. Anyhow, being with dogs wasn’t very easy for me. Every time when dogs passed by, jumped or barked made me nervous. I couldn’t even dare to move. However, I got inside and started going the work. Our first task was to assemble the cage for dogs. And we took photos while working which was kind of fun but also made us wet. After this we have started to bath the dogs. As I was afraid of dogs I couldn’t bath so the other friends did it and I took some photos of dogs and look at it. But the most surprising thing was the dogs was listening to them, actually they understand the dogs and it’s like they were communicating to each other. I think they really like us giving bath because they are also mammals. Finally bathing 20 or more dogs ended and started to clean the floors. But I manage to do it and I last succeeded to bare myself not to be scared of dogs and I think they liked me. And from working I learned a lot. Work at the shelter is not easy and people who work with it every day must be very tiring and as there are also feeding, cleaning, giving medicine to them and so on. I think they are really brave. Once again I want to say is that nothing can be done easily, we must be patient and we must love dogs as without it we cannot work with dogs and we must love them if all our hearts.

A piece from a volunteer of HELP Institute

Here's another piece from another volunteer from HELP Institue. We are glad we opened her mind about keeping dogs and how to care for them.

STACEY LIM SIEW TZE

HELP UNIVERSITY

I am a student from HELP University. In the foundation course we were given a task and asked to complete 10 hours of community service. Since I am a dog lover myself, I took this opportunity to complete my task in Second Chance, which is located along Old Klang Road.

Few days ago, my friends and I went here to start our service. When I first stepped into this place, I found that it looks so old and simple. I saw different species of dogs running here and there. All of them were abandoned! However, there are very clean and this has to be thanked for the volunteers of Second Chance who tried their best to take good care of these dogs.

The first mission we were asked to do is to build up a kennel. It was my first time on building something like this and I felt satisfied and proud when I finally did it. Besides, we were taught to feed the dogs and bathe them. Although I have a dog in my house, but I'm not the one who takes care of it. But now I already have the idea and knowledge how to take care of my dog. At here, I also learnt how to develop a good relationship between dogs and human. As long as we are good to them, they will be friendly to us!

I saw a few dogs which had injured very badly. There's one dog had a big wound on its body due to the fight with other dogs. The volunteers here had spent quite a large amount of money to sent this dog for operation. From here, we can see how much they love the dogs and willing to spend most of their time on taking care these people's so-called 'wild dogs'.

I sincerely hope that everyone who owns a dog will love their dogs and also appreciate their presence in your life. Don't get/buy a dog just because your friends have one, and don't abandoned them just because you found a new one and think the new one is better and nicer. Only keep them if you really love and are passionate for them. Lastly, anyone whom interested to have a dog please kindly come to Second Chance to take a look on these dogs. If you are interested in anyone of them, ask for adoption. They may not look like a golden retriever or a husky but I believe if you treat them with your true heart, they can make your life beautiful!

Thank you.

New site for Second Chance

It has been quite sometime since we last broke the news that we have rented a new piece of land in Hulu Langat where we will shift to. Here are some pictures for all of our supporters as well as volunteers who have not seen the land. The land is full of greenery and has a slight uphill. There will be a need to level the land. We are currently raising funds for the shelter building. We are estimating RM100K but we have yet to receive quotations from the constructors yet. There is a lot more fund raising to do before we reach our target. Anyhow, here are some pictures :

The scenery here is breath-taking and is just next to a vegetable farm. Durian and rambutan trees are everywhere. When this place is ready, it would be such a haven for our furkids.

Our volunteers from HELP Institute

We have been getting some help from volunteers from HELP Institute. As part of their assignment, they are required to write a short piece on their experience helping out at the shelter. Here's one of them :

Name: Ting Yin Ning

Student ID: B1102927

From: HELP University

Today is my first day at Second Chance. Although it was tiring, I had plenty of fun at the center. I gave the dogs baths, cleaned the shelter and fed the dogs. At first, I could not bear the smell. But slowly, I was not afraid of the smell. All the dogs in the Second Chance are very “friendly”. When I step into the center, all the dogs were come over to me. It was like they were welcoming me. Almost all the dogs are stray dogs but they don’t bite.

Some of the dogs are still puppies. So, when we bathed them, we need to be more careful. I have not reared any dogs before. So, I really appreciate that time and the experience handling the dogs. This was the first time I bathed the dogs and also first time cleaned up the dog’s shelters. I truly feel that the people who run the shelter are dedicated and great. They help the dogs that have been abandoned by their owner.

Lastly, I want to thank for the Second Chance for giving me the opportunity for going there to help them. I hope that one day, people will know accept and understand the loyalty of dogs and the fact that they are humans’ best friend and appreciate them.

We welcome volunteers to help out with the work at the shelter. It truly is an experience to go through how we run the shelter. To volunteer, please fill up the form on our website.

Thank You

Whoo is this?

Dear Second Chance Readers & Supporters,

Any idea whose butt is it? The cute lil' one is happily welcoming her daily care taker.

Hello there! It's me Miss Caramel a.k.a. Ah Mel. I am the living proof of Miracles do happen. I am a survivor of the evil distemper virus and also a survivor of severe dog-attack injuries. See my cute little tipped ear and the huge pink scar around my butt? I have been spayed but the cute tipped ear is not a marking of my spaying procedure. It is the proof of my amazing recovery from an terrible dog fight. Read more about my awful experience here

No biggies. I am doing extremely fine at Second Chance shelter now and I have taken up a new role, i.e. the receptionist of my respective kennel. Can you resist my big bright smile and hazel eyes when you walk into the shelter? Believe it or not, I really really make a perfect receptionist to greet you when you're home & welcome your guests.

And guess what? Despite my awful experience being attacked by a pack of dogs, I ain't traumatized by the ugly experience and I am still a very sociable & adorable (wink, wink) doggie. See how me and my bestie get along at the shelter? We even synchronize our greet-our-daily-caretaker dance. Amazing huh?

Don't you think I am sooooo adorable and I would be a lovely addition to your family? Pawlease pawlease pawlease.... Drop by to visit me and my fur friends @ Second Chance Shelter on 18 & 19 February.

Me and my other oh-so adorable fur friends are longing for a home sweet home too! Pinky promise that you will at least drop by to visit us (bringing us some doggie snacks, old newspaper & rice would be even the most AWESOMEST thing ever!!) & we will definitely shower you with loads of pooches' smooches (much more that you could imagine) =*

Lastly, I would love to thank all the kind donors & caretakers who have donated funds for my costly treatment + wonderful supplements that helped me tremendously during my recover period + loads of TLC + visit me at Dr Goh's Clinic. And also Dr Goh & his helper who have taken good care of me while I was admitted to his clinic. Now that I am big & healthy, all I want is a loving home. I purrmise.... I will love my adopter & family to bits! If you are unable to adopt me, at least, help us spread the words on the adoption drive! I would love to share my love with more beautiful people. =) XoXo

Loads of pooches smooches,
Caramel

Two puppies for adoption!

Kazz came to us for help in rehoming these two puppies she found at the streets. This is the message from Kazz :

2 female stray pups, Flower (brown) and Snowy (white). They are about 3 months old. They live on the streets as you can see by the pics and take shelter under parked cars. I was planning to have them spayed before adopting. However, after weighing the chances, I think it's better to have them adopted as quickly as possible because of the dangerous place they live around. Adopter's have to get them dewormed, vaccinated and spayed. Flower: a very sweet, affectionate and shy girl. still playful and quite inquisitive because she is still very young. Will make a very good companion and she loves to kiss you :) Has a short brown and very silky coat with cute floppy ears. Has the potential to make a really great house pet :) Snowy: a little more aggressive and rambunctious than Flower, she is also very sweet and loving. Very playful still as per her young age. Also likes to kiss whenever she can :) Will make a nice pet for a person who is active. She has a medium length white coat that is very soft and yellow upright ears. Please note that these pups must never be chained or tied up at all. They must also never be caged.

Here are some pictures of these adorable puppies.

If you have the space as well as some love to spare for these two puppies, pls contact Kazz at : kazzhuang@gmail.com.
